I can’t say this class has caused my writing style to change. The ambulance method in my opinion kind of makes writing robotic and efficient which I think defeats the purpose of writing. This class has given me a new topic to be passionate about, immigration. Before this class I never really thought about all that much except when people called immigrants names. For the most part I was thinking about the abortion debate, gay rights debate, euthanasia debate, rights for Muslims, and the violence in media debate. Being a motion pictures major I would especially get upset when people say violent movies and TV shows are the cause of all the country’s problem. Violent video games are responsible for mass shootings is another topic I would get involved in. I don’t know why immigration took a back burner to my list of debates, but after this class I think about it now. I didn’t even know about the Syrian refugee crisis until this class.

The Syrian refugee crisis has been something that has caught my attention more than anything else. These people are just trying not to die, their country is in ruin, yet people call them all terrorists and treat them as sub-human. These camps with the barb wire fences are something out of WWII. Refugees trying to leave the camp being sprayed with tear gas, countries putting up walls to keep the refugees out it really is heart breaking. Our country is really no different because of all these state governors saying they will keep the refugees out. Conservative pundits spitting so much vile at the refugees calling them things like “filth” and “sludge” it’s just so horrible and those people should feel ashamed of themselves. The Paris attacks and now the attack in California are being used as ammunition against the refugees by conservatives, which is what the terrorists want. I just hope someday all this vile and hate towards the refugees will calm but it will probably be a while.

My favorite thing to do this semester was the Halloween party. I first I thought I would be bored because I am not a party person, but I was surprised. It was fun hanging with the kids and making them happy really was a rewarding feeling. I still have “Gordo” the gourd I made except he is kind of falling apart now. Anyway that party was probably the most fun I had all year and I was happy we could give those kids a happy Halloween. So even though my writing style hasn’t changed this class has given me something new to think about and be involved in.
