Marketing Materials

For the marketing materials assignment, I was a part of the group that worked on NICE’s website. NICE already had a pretty good website established, but there were a few things we felt needed to be changed. The work that my group did was mostly done together because a majority of the work had to do with organizing the website and making it more concise. A lot of the work I did was helping with what we wanted to change, and how we could make it better. Originally, NICE had a lot of information on their homepage, making it cluttered. We decided to get rid of all of the information on the homepage except for the information letting people know how they can help. We also kept the picture slideshow, the navigation bar, and the logo in the same places NICE originally had them. Moving all of the information off of the homepage simplified the page, making it more appealing for the potential donors and volunteers. The audience looking at this homepage will like how it is easy to get donation and volunteer information because that what they are looking for. We also decided to add a pop-up providing visitors with a quick and easy way to provide NICE with their email, allowing them to stay up to date with what is happening at NICE.

We also changed the ‘Journey of a Refugee’ page. Originally, the link to this page was on the homepage, but we decided to move the link to under the ‘About’ tab on the navigation bar. This way the donors and volunteers can find this additional information if they want to. Overall, the ‘Journey of a Refugee’ page was already well done. NICE provided a good amount of information about the processes a refugee experiences. The information was not overwhelming, allowing the reader to gain knowledge of the process in an efficient manner. However, there were a few things we decided to change about the page. The page is set up in three sections, and within those sections, are boxes to help organize the information NICE provides. The changes we made all contribute to making the page visually appealing. Originally the boxes varied in size, and the text was all to the left of the page. The boxes fit around the text like a glove, but we decided it would look better to have the boxes be the same size. Making the boxes the same size creates order and organization. The last section of the page had green boxes, while the rest were orange, so we changed the boxes from green to orange to keep it consistent throughout the page. There was also a grey textbox at the top of the page providing links to additional information about specific refugee groups. We decided to move that information to the bottom of the page and take it out of a box. We decided to center all of the text because it allowed the page to fit together nicely. I really helped with the different ideas for the ‘Journey of a Refugee’ page.
