Group Discussion Leader Presentation (15%)
At the beginning of the semester, you will sign up for a group discussion leader presentation date. For this discussion leader presentation, you and your group member(s) will present on a keyword of your choice from the Keywords in Sound textbook we’ll be using. Your group will open the class discussion on that keyword with a short presentation that introduces the concept and uses an example from culture to analyze the term in action. Your group will also create the equivalent of a one-page handout that I will help your group convert into an online sound studies resource for non-specialists. Your presentation should raise a variety of discussion questions that drive the class discussion that follows.
What makes for a successful presentation/discussion?
- read the entry
- meet with me the week before to clarify any confusion on the entry
- spend the first 5-10 minutes in class defining the keyword and explaining its significance in sound studies
- be ready with discussion questions for the class (3 or more will do)
- bring an example that illustrates the keyword in some way
- take notes during the discussion
- one week after your presentation, submit your one-page Word document for the Keyword wiki
